We appreciate that this is a particularly challenging time for everyone in the community. It is also difficult for those people who are normally active, but who are now being socially isolated. This isolation is reducing activity levels in both children and adults and could negatively impact on people’s well-being, both physically and mentally.

We are uploading daily videos of games and activities you can play with the family at home. Please check and share what we have been up to on Facebook and YouTube

We at Kids Run Free have been activating children across the UK for over a decade and want to reassure you that COVID-19 won’t stop us from keeping you fit, healthy and having fun!

Please share our videos with your friends and family to inspire others to keep fit. We would like to send our best wishes to all our Kids Run Free volunteers and participants.

Stay safe and keep as active as you can!

Marathon Kids is an exciting FREE programme, which gives primary school children the opportunity to run or walk multiple marathons over the school year.

It’s all about children working towards their own personal goals rather than it being a competition. Running a marathon is recognised by everyone as a massive achievement and Marathon Kids breaks this down in a way that makes it possible for everyone.

It’s flexible and sustainable, and works with your existing timetable so you can run your sessions when it suits you. Plus you get an online Digital Tracking System (DTS) to measure and track your running so you know how well you’re performing, and when children reach their milestones. Sign up here for FREE

To help you get started, you’ll have access to loads of cool support tools, and if you want a more hands-on approach, you could always allocate some of your Sports Premium to buy one of our team of Marathon Makers who will set everything up. Starter kits and branded rewards, such as medals and t-shirts are also available from our online shop.

We are proud to have the support of global Marathon Kids Ambassador, Sir Mo Farah:

“I love running, and it’s given me and my family so much,” says Farah. “As a dad, I know how important it is for my children to be active, and I’m honoured to have the chance to inspire kids to run with Marathon Kids.”

Marathon Kids have a better chance of achieving the recommended 30 minutes of daily physical activity in school time. It’s proven that children who have daily bursts of physical activity will perform better and show improvements in behaviour.

“Marathon Kids has definitely improved concentration, fitness levels and overall enthusiasm throughout the whole school. The children are also eating much more at dinner time because they are burning more energy and they are also concentrating much more in class because they are awake and switched on. Marathon Kids has been a positive investment for our school.”

Tom Bradshaw, PE Coordinator, Gisburn Road Community Primary School

We encourage parents/carers to download the KRF Running App so children and their families can achieve the other 30 minutes of physical activity, and ultimately reach the over-all recommended 60 minutes of moderate to physical activity per day.

Marathon Kids can also be used by home schools and SEND schools. If you want to find out more, why not give our friendly team a call on 01926 336628?

“I love to run with Marathon Kids and help others to enjoy it as well,” Samantha, year 6, Acorns Primary School

As a keen ice figure skater Samantha already had a love of sports and fitness, but Marathon Kids helped that love to reach new levels.

Samantha was the first child at Acorns School in Long Compton to run 30k through the programme. She now regularly runs 20 to 30 miles per month with her parents, runs for the school cross country team and helps younger children taking part in Marathon Kids.

Her teacher Hannah Young said: “Samantha has an ability to motivate other children with her running and sport in general. She is a great role model.”

Samantha’s mum added: “The transformation with Samantha’s fitness is great, it’s made her love running more and she sees it as fun.”
